Finally in India!

After unveiling the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ at the ‘Unpacked’ event on March 29, Samsung India has finally launched the smartphones today in India. Coming from Samsung, these smartphones are the flagship products from the company this year. Galaxy S8 is the successor of the Galaxy S7, which was launched last year. The Galaxy S8 is priced at Rs. 57,900 and the Galaxy S8+ is priced at Rs. 64,900. Both the smartphones will be exclusively available on Flipkart, Samsung stores and at major retail stores. Comparing the newly launched Galaxy S8 with its predecessor will show you some major changes this time. Except for the camera, every other department has got a major makeover. The company has done some huge changes in the design, display, UI, and added many new features.

Both the flagships feature a QHD AMOLED display measuring 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch, which Samsung calls the ‘Infinity Display’ with the front and rear sides protected by Gorilla Glass 5. Like its predecessor Galaxy S7 Edge, the Galaxy S8 variants also come with curved edge to edge display. Despite having a beautiful looking display, some international users are complaining about the bizarre 18:5:9 aspect ratio. Optics include a 12MP sensor with f/1.7 aperture on the back having ‘Dual Pixel autofocus’ technology for snappy autofocus speed, and an 8MP front camera with ‘Smart autofocus’ a first on any smartphone. Under the hood it runs the Exynos 8895 octa-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz. Though the US variant comes with the Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor. Both the smartphones comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage with microSD support up to 256GB. Although the company announced a 6GB RAM and 128Gb storage variant Galaxy S8+ in South Korean market but it’s unlikely that the company will bring that variant in India. The Galaxy S8 is powered by a 3000mAh battery while the bigger Galaxy S8+ comes with a 2500mAh battery. Both the smartphones run on Android 7.0 Nougat with Samsung’s own custom UI on top. This time around, the company has incorporated several new things in Galaxy S8 and S8+. First is the pressure sensitive invisible home button that is baked under the display. There are no physical navigation keys on the bottom this time, and the fingerprint sensor is moved to the back. Moreover, Samsung’s AI based virtual assistant ‘Bixby’ has made its place in the smartphone this time.

Both the smartphones come with IP68 rating which adds water and dust resistance. Samsung has also included IRIS scanner for enhanced security. The company has also added a pressure sensitive invisible home button which is baked at the bottom of the display. Connectivity options include a USB Type-C, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS and NFC. The smartphones will be available from May 5, while they can be pre-booked starting today
