Priced too close to the Moto G4 Plus?
Moto G4 goes on sale in India at Rs 12,499
Motorola unveiled the fourth generation of the Moto G last month. For the first time, Motorola (now owned by Lenovo) launched more than one smartphone in the G range, with the Moto G4 and the Moto G4 Plus. The Moto G4 Plus was launched last month at a starting price of Rs 13,499.
Now, the younger brother of the Moto G4 Plus, the Moto G4 has finally gone on sale in India and is available exclusively on Amazon India for Rs 12,499.
The Moto G4 features a 5.5-inch full HD (1920x1080 pixels) display, with a pixel density of 401 ppi. This is the first time a Moto G smartphone has come with a full HD display. The three previous generations had to make do with only a 720p panel. The display is also covered with Gorilla Glass 3 for protection.
The smartphone packs a 1.5GHz octa-core Snapdragon 617 processor paired with 2GB of RAM. On the imaging front, the Moto G4 features a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP wide-angle front camera for selfies.
The smartphone is powered by a 3,000mAh battery unit with TurboCharging support that as per Motorola delivers 6 hours of usage with just 15 minutes of charging.

We wonder if Lenovo has made a mistake in pricing the Moto G4 so close to the Moto G4 Plus. For just Rs 1,000 more, the G4 Plus offers a higher resolution 16-megapixel camera with PDAF and laser auto-focus as well as a fingerprint sensor.
We had expected the Moto G4 to be price around the 11,000 rupee mark, and it's current price of Rs 12,4999 really makes it difficult to recommend over the Moto G4 Plus.
Along with it's own elder brother, the Moto G4 will also face tough competition from the LeEco Le 2, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and the Yu Unicorn.
